Artists’ Statement (draught)

I am an artist living and working in East London and work in a variety of media; digital, oil paint etc.

My work is about spacial relationships, balance, identity, state of mind and often autobiographical

I produce prints using an Epson R3880 A2 printer and K3 Ultra chrome pigment inks on Hannemuhle and DaVinci papers in my studio, compositing my works in Photoshop.

I view the computer as a tool, primarily a compositing tool, used to bring and combine separate elements together to realise my aims.

I combine elements I have created, be they photographs, drawings, paintings, textures or text into a final image through scanning and direct input with a drawing tablet. I will use basic photo post processing to adjust contrast and image sharpening as any photographer would, before isolating elements by cutting them out with the pen tool ( electronic scissors, if you like ) manually. I then work with adjustment layers and alpha masks, combining many layers together for the final composition.

I find this method intuitive and much the same as the process of painting; combining layers of paint and glazing and using mediums to achieve the final result.
